Additional Chiropractic Treatments

Joints often become restricted due to improper posture or poor muscle activity. If the joint is restricted; the body begins to develop compensatory patterns to achieve its normal ranges of motion. If the joints remain restricted, the compensatory patterns continue and can eventually lead to abnormal, or lack of movement in the original joint.
This segmental restriction will eventually cause pain and degeneration. Our goal is to find where the joint is restricted and perform an adjustment to allow the joint to regain motion and increase function. This in turn relaxes the surrounding overactive muscles and reduces pain.

Functionl rehab

Functional Rehabilitation

Functional rehabilitation is designed to progress the patient from simple exercises of stability to more advanced exercises that help strengthen the bodies weaknesses and work on muscle balancing to help you return to full range of motion and strength. Patients will be shown how to help themselves by participating in various rehabilitation exercises that can be done at home. These exercises can help with everything from low back pain, core work, headaches, and neck pain to getting a stronger squat and deadlift.

Taking an active role in your health

These functional exercises empower patients to become responsible for their pain and dysfunction. This allows you to obtain quicker results in fewer treatments than a traditional Chiropractors office. Detailed instructions and scheduling are provided to help patients develop a good routine for their functional exercises while at home. We have found that patients who participate and take a front seat approach to their care, more than by just showing up at their appointments, tend to have better outcomes and more satisfaction in their care. Knowledge is power.

What does it entail and what do I need?

The nature of rehabilitation exercises is learning how to control your body’s movements. Most of the exercises prescribed require minimal equipment. Body weight and light weight or multiple repetition exercises are used as the patient progresses through the program. This allows for freedom and flexibility on when and where to perform the exercises.

Chiropractic adjustments are not just for back pain. Chiropractic adjustments improve range of motion and function in the entire body.

The Pettibon System

The Pettibon System is a proven spine and posture correction methodology that, along with providing pain relief, also restores normal spinal form and function.

Why is Pettibon different?
You get to actively participate in your care both in the clinic and at home. You will play an integral role in this correction by working on strengthening the weak areas in your body that allowed the dysfunction to develop. When you come to the clinic, you won’t sit passively waiting to see the Doctor. You probably already spent most of your day sitting at work or driving. Instead, you will prepare your body for treatment by doing warm up exercises and stretching your muscles, ligaments and discs using the Therapeutic Wobble Chair and/or the Repetitive Cervical Traction Unit. These warmup exercises hydrate the disc and increase disc space preparing the spine for treatment that will help hold the adjustment much better.

Posture & Movement Analysis

Each patient undergoes a gait analysis, functional screen, and postural analysis to determine the root of dysfunction and/or cause of pain. This individual analysis allows us to dig deep and find the root cause of movement imbalances.

We place a huge focus on our pediatric patients. It is especially important for children to develop patterns that are functional so they can be properly ingrained as they get older. The way we learn to move from birth develops into all our movement patterns as we become adults.

A thorough analysis can determine if your child’s patterns are functional, and this gives a lot more information than simply reaching their “milestones.” Our doctors utilize the principles of Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization in conjunction with a Chiropractic evaluation to assess pediatric patients. With that information, our doctors can determine a treatment plan for your child that will ensure proper function and coordination of their nervous system.

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS)

The purpose of this technique is to promote proper activation and coordination of the neuromuscular system.

DNS views the entire muscle and skeletal system. It involves every component, including joints, nerves, muscles and soft tissue. This activates the body’s global foundational movement. These patterns are necessary for movement, posture, control, and stability of the spine.

DNS is part of neuromuscular therapy. This type of therapy can help reduce muscle pain and spasms. Muscles spasm persist when they are not receiving adequate blood flow. This lack of blood flow to the muscle also results in a lack of oxygen in the blood reaching the muscle. When the muscle is deprived of oxygen it produces lactic acid. Lactic acid causes the muscle to get sore and lose a certain amount of function.

Neuromuscular therapy can help relax the muscle and allow it to release the lactic acid that is causing it to get sore and lose function. Neuromuscular therapy combined with DNS protocols, can also help strengthen the muscles and help restore correct function to the musculoskeletal system.
