Sports Performance

Are You an Athlete?

According to University of Oregon track and field coach and Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman, “If you have a body, you are an athlete.” In other words, an athlete can be an elite top competitor, or a weekend warrior, a child, or a parent trying to keep up with their playful children.

Sports Medicine specialists are concerned with the prevention and rehabilitation of sports-related injuries affecting muscles, ligaments, tendons, and bones. These specialists may also treat chronic illnesses or conditions that can affect physical performance.

We see many gymnasts, dancers, and football players at our office. Even at the younger level of sports, these repetitive activities can take a toll on a small body. We can help them with the negative effects of their favorite activities.

Your child doesn’t need to be in pain or have an injury to see us. Chiropractic care can prevent injuries from occurring since your child’s body will be in optimum alignment.

Our Approach to Sports Medicine

At Embody Health Chiropractic, we address activity-limiting problems with a science-based, gentle approach, combining methods of chiropractic, massage therapy, proper recovery, ergonomics, nutrition, mindfulness, soft tissue active release, and self-care.

We believe it’s not enough to get our patients out of pain — our goal is to empower you, the athlete, to improve your quality of life and avoid pain and dysfunction in the future.

The components of high-level fitness include agility, balance, coordination, endurance, flexibility, strength, power, and speed. These all need to be considered as building blocks for enhanced sport-specific performance or injury prevention.

Our goal is to improve the quality of your life whether it be every day movement or training. We want to increase your resistance and repetitions, without compromising the underlying balance and “core” stability. This will achieve the goal of enhanced performance and injury prevention. Once you have recovered from your injury or pain, our preventive emphasis on supervised functional training workouts can give you the fitness edge you are looking for.

Soft Tissue Technique-Myofascial Release

When a muscle, tendon, or ligament is too tight, painful, or does not function properly, soft tissue techniques are used to help address the issue. Our doctors have training in numerous soft tissue techniques; Active Release Technique (ART), Graston Technique (GT), Post-Isometric Relaxation (PIR), and Functional Range Conditioning. ART involves breaking up adhesions in the soft tissues by having the patient go through various motions activating the muscle, while the doctor applies specific pressure to the area being treated. GT uses instruments, rather than the doctor’s hands, to apply pressure to break up adhesions. PIR is a muscle relaxation technique that has been found to be very effective at releasing tension in tight muscles as well as treating trigger points and Functional Range Conditioning which shows you how to actively engage your joints to their full range of motion to optimize proper motion.

Recovery

Here at Embody Health Chiropractic, we believe that recovery is a vital component to your performance and health. Anyone that is dedicated to a certain training regimen, wants to improve performance. Training and recovery are a delicate balance. Recovery is when the body can adapt to all the stimulus it was exposed to. It is a time to repair and replenish. That time is important. We have a variety of tools to help you recover faster and with ease by decreasing muscle soreness and improving circulation that will help you bounce back stronger and faster.
